This blog has been well overdue, as I'm sure you can appreciate this weeks' been pretty busy. Firstly I was on holiday last week as the game was released and the wifi on my holiday park was beyond useless so I couldn't always be online. But we managed to cope.
So, release happened last Monday or even Sunday night in the case of Android. App store version did actually go live fairly early on Monday but myself like many of you couldn't locate the game in the app store... Luckily I ended up getting an email from the developers in Austin who sent me the link to download it which I shared with yourselves, I worry how long we could have been waiting if they never sent that link through.
Initial release was really good, thanks to everyone who downloaded it and especially to anyone who's shared the posts or told friends about the game, that is honestly the best way this game is going to grow.
Having said that a couple of small issues appeared during the full release, firstly two bugs which we thought were resolved in beta testing (Fighting your own boxer & Fighting yourself as champion) although they sound similar these are separate issues and should have never made it to full release but these things happen and within 48 hours updates will be rolled out and everything will be resolved. Other new bugs like no opponent showing and boxers disappearing or resetting will also be resolved in this update.
Because of these bugs I've held back slightly with my marketing, I'd love to get lots of reviews and press articles about the game but best to hold back just until these are resolved. Also with that I will be asking people to retweet about the game or maybe post blogs or talk on podcasts about this but for the moment I've held back which I think is the best tactic.
Despite this I did call into boxing fan talk show Wraps on TV to discuss The Boxing Promoter as well as offer my own review on Mayweather vs McGregor, which may annoy some people. If you fancy a listen it's on this link WrapsOnTV.
I know this is quite a long post but as I mentioned in the title, there is a lot of get through. Next up reviews, as I'm sure you all know reviews are so important for apps, it helps not only encourage new players but also how well we appear within the app stores. So far the reviews have been amazing and even those which aren't 4/5* have offered really good constructive feedback which is extremely valuable. If you haven't left a review please please do so it honestly means the world to me, the star rating is amazing but if you could leave a little note as well (what you like, don't like, would advise... etc).
Where are we at then? In terms of downloads and success, I have to say I'm pretty happy with the situation. Updates from the end of yesterday (29th) is almost 1000 downloads on iOS and pretty much the same on Android, meaning nearly 2000 people have downloaded The Boxing Promoter which is just crazy! My target has always been around the 10,000 mark or above so 2,000 so far with as I said not a lot of marketing looks great.
iOS - App Store
Android - Google Play (Note the amazing surge over the last couple days 395 downloads on 29th)
Of these 2,000 (nearly) downloads it's really good to study where they are from, something I'm really keen on is bringing this game global. Marketing for that is obviously tough as I want to reach the boxing hotspots like Mexico, the Philippines and Ukraine of which I have no real direct connections. Having said that the charts below show that I'm already making some progress around the world, even if it's only a handful of downloads it doesn't matter hopefully it can grow from there.
iOS - App Store
Android - Google Play
I won't go too much into enhancements now but what I will say is I'm listening to all of the reviews which come through, a couple of the main things are money (making it more of a challenge to balance the books, more decisions to make etc) and time between fights (I will look into specifically the first few fights for each boxer, once you have 6/7 fighters generally there will always be something going on but I understand with 3/4 boxers having to wait 1/2 hours isn't ideal, so I'll look into that 100%).
So there we have it, one long and wordy update. I'll still do frequent blogs and probably go back to audience questions from this Sunday. Until then, stay safe everyone!
